Summer Doorways

The poet W.S. Merwin (b. 1927) writes evocatively of two summers in his life in the late 40s, when, as a Princeton student, he was tutor to a wealthy young lad in New Jersey and in France. Merwin`s look back at a long-gone privileged way of life and his own coming-of-age adventures--both in the U.S. and on his first trip to Europe--is as lyrical as his poetry.
